My choice was Landscape and my theme was Water.
At the start my Idea was to take some images in various locations such as seascapes, rivers, waterfalls, lakes and ponds of which I have taken some images but few matched with lighting, contrast and composition,as I went along my idea of what to shoot changed, I did try to go out around the same time for walks and shoot them but the light was different in so many places and some images showed little resemblance,so It was later on through the course that I decided to take a series of shots in one place on a similar subject and area to see if I could come up with a good series. This did seem to work but they are of the same place and I would have been happier if they were of different places however the images I had would not have looked right together and would have looked too individual.
Before going on any shoot I would plan in advance where I would be going and what I would be going for and generally this would happen, however I can get distracted and I would take images of various objects and scenes around me.I thought about the time of day it was and tried to contemplate the weather situation so I could think about the sunlight and how much time I would have.
I would take my camera -Cannon1000D, a fully charged battery, empty or a memory card with lots of space on it and the Tripod, however I did forget this on one occassion and was dissapointed!
Whilst out taking photographs to begin with it was trial and error, trying to remember what I had been taught in lesson, rembering the rule of thirds, composition and of course how to use my camera in Manual mode, but the more I took photographs in the various places the more I became accustomed to looking at what was going on around me,judging the light, compostion and getting to know my camera.
Along the way I have been inspired by many Photographers one was Giles Norman
Giles norman lives in kinsale, co.cork born in 1961 to Belgian and English parents, Giles has lived in kinsale since 1976.
While completing his formal schooling, a chance request to photograph a school project provided him with his first real opportunity to use a camera. this experience proved to be a very positive one and in 1979, he received his first camera for his 18th birthday. by 1981 he had begun creating his first portfolios.Quickly developing his own distinctive style of black and white photography giles began to successfully sell his black and white photographs to craft shops around Ireland. to support this demand he rented darkroom space in kinsale, where a small window to the street drew a steady stream of visitors. This welcome intrusion convinced him to open his first black and white photography gallery.
By selling work from his earliest portfolios of kinsale, dublin, kerry and west cork, the gallery became successful and gained giles recognition as one of Ireland’s leading black and white photographers although I have choosen not to put in any black and white images into my Final peices I really like Black and whit images and have included quite a few along the way,
Another being Ed Collacott
Ed Collacott has a passion for taking photographs and his work features the finest landscapes in the UK. Aided by a background in Geography and Geology, Ed appreciates the natural and human processes that have shaped our environment. The patterns, textures and natural forms that reflect nature's rhythms are a continual source of inspiration.
I am pleased with my final piece and have enjoyed the course and really love landscapes but it is such a big wide world out there with millions and millions of images to take and master, and I will continue to see where the path will lead me as I have experimented with different subjects and have a few favorites.
